Had a so so experience. The service was increadibly slow though I suspect that usually isnt the case because they seemed very understaffed and the host said they were having "labor issues". The shrimp and salami special was not very good unless you are into the taste and smell of feet. The pretzel crusted chicken and mashed potatoes were awesome! I think we were at the restaurant well over an hour just to get a quick bite.

I had breakfast here three times while I was staying in South Haven. The service was prompt and the food was great, with big portions and tasty breakfasts. Two dinners here were fine, but we were served far too much food and it was only OK. Ravioli was a bit underdone and chewy, but the chocolate mousse desserts were outstanding. Now if only the decor weren't so dreary, I'd give this place more stars. As someone else noted, the name has now changed to Phoenix Street Restaurant.

This place is pretty darn good. I had the spinach burger which was ah-mazing. Seriously. This was one tasty patty. I think they hold together all the spinach with feta and then crisp it up like a crab cake. Just to make my burger extra tasty I added havarti and avocado. My god, it was delicious. If I'm in South Haven, I'd go here again and also make a point to try some of their delicious looking desserts. I was too stuffed at the end of my meal to get one but they also looked great.

Disclaimer-- in many other locales I would give Phoenix Street Cafe a solid four stars, but in South Haven it's a five. In my experience, this really is "as good as it gets" in this town! That said, it really is quite good. I'm not vegetarian, but I was impressed by the extent of veggie options on the menu. I've tried the spinach, artichoke, portobello, and asparagus sandwiches, and would eat any of them again (especially the spinach). I would describe the ambiance as neutral. It's not particularly inviting or terribly comfortable-- I wouldn't want to hang out there after finishing my meal. But it is quite clean with a pleasant noise level and good lighting. It is family-friendly (crayons and paper placemats) but not family-dominated, so I think anyone could go there and have a nice meal. Overall, it's great to have a "go-to" restaurant in South Haven where the kitchen really seems to care about the product that they're putting out. Although the service is not always the fastest, it is friendly. The menu has an array of good options and is reasonably priced. I can't ask for much else!

The service was pretty lame (young waitress who couldn't handle more than 2 tables) however the food was pretty good! Had the mini breakfast and eggs were cooked well and warm:)

This is a very interesting little cafe in downtown South Haven with a cool menu of expected and a few unexpected items. I had the spinach burger. Wished it had been toasted or grilled a bit longer but was very tasty. We had a great, saucy waitress--earns a big tip from me! Vegetarians and vegans should love this place, with many such options on the menu. Several varieties of Eggs Benedict on the menu, among many, many other breakfast items. From American cafe standards to some choice vegans/vegetarian specialties--you could DO much worse in this very touristy little town.

This was a purely comedic experince at the good ol Phoenix cafe. Mostly funny because i didnt know pancakes were frisbees. We went here on a saturday morning and were seated asap.Again greeted by two waitresses, must be a south haven thing. I decided to start my 1st vaca morning off with a mimosa. So what if I look like a drunk I want my mimosa! This was the only saving grace for Phoenix. A delightfully large mimosa accompany by the rest of the smallbrut champagne bottle and a little OJ side car! Hell ya thats what I'm talking about! Can you say dealio??? They had a tofu scramble on the menu but sadly it was out of season:( Didnt know tofu had a season...... The food not so good.....I ordered the pancake special that came with two pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns. The pancakes were huge and hard as plastic! I could tap them and it sounded like wood.I was in shock,so i thought maybe they had a special pancake recipe or smething so I cut into one and took a bite.......it tasted like a donut! Yuk! I ended up only eating the eggs since the hashbrown were raw. I asked the lady what was up with the pancakes while tapping them and ask if they were fried or something??? She said no they shouldnt be like that and promised next time they would be like that! Well thanks but my tummy is full now and I definitly wont be back anytime soon, but thanks for the gaurantee lady.Bfs eggs benedict were floating in sauce too ewwwy ew! I sorta thought maybe they would take off my ick ass pannycakes but I was wrong the bill came with them on there and full price. When I went to pay at the front she swiped my card, slapped down a pen and the sheet to sign and walked away. Very friendly!

We own a cottage here, so we know all the restaurants. Don't wait in line for hours to get in to Clementines. Phenix Street has better food, service and prices. Cocktails too.

It's sometimes hard to find a place to meet a business colleague in a vacation town. Based on YELP reviews we went. The Spinach Burger was out of this world! Service was great! I am still dreaming about the dessert. It's kinda pricey for the atmosphere but delicious. It's not fancy but quaint and the service was good and staff and locals friendly.

They have an extensive menu of unique and flavorful food, with many vegetarian items. There were six of us there, and we all absolutely loved our meals! The artichoke burger and the oatmeal cakes were our favorites!

  • Neil F.

Service was a little slow to take our order and ended up flagging a waitress as every table around us was seated after us but their orders was taken. The food however was great, I had B&Gs and she had the BELT. Coffee was pretty good but nothing to rave about. If the service was on it this would have been 5 stars.

This place never disappoints! I agree that this place is one of the best restaurants in South Haven. Their meals are always excellent, and they have a variety of specials. The staff is friendly and courteous, and very knowledgeable about the menu. It's also less frequented by families with young, tired, sunburned children, so if you're looking for a nice, peaceful place to dine, this is it.

We ate at many of the restaurants in South Haven during our vacay there but I wish we had not eaten at this one! We were there for dinner and had to wait at least 35 minutes for a table. We had a reservation! I had the trout and it was overcooked and tasteless. Others in my party had the whitefish which they said was OK but a little bland. Two had burgers, burnt and hard. My son had a PB & J. Seems easy, right? Wrong! The bread was hard, not the type a kid would want so why even use it? It was quite funny watching him try to take a bite until I thought he was going to break a tooth! The service was good and the location great but the food was awful. I won't go back.

Only here for breakfast, but with that their breakfasts are great! I love the crab cake eggs Benedict it is very good, get the home style redskin potatoes with amazing. Wait staff is friendly and on time. Anytime I'm in South Haven in the morning I eat here, so should you, its Yummy! Cheers!l

We ate here this past Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were seated quickly, had an excellent waiter, and the food was delicious. Both of our kids enjoyed it as well, even the picky one.

This is one of the better breakfast joints in South Haven. The cinnamon french toast is very good, even if the pancakes were just ok. The star of breakfast was the thick-cut bacon. Yum! The atmosphere was clean and inviting. I'd rate the overall experience a 3.5.

I am writing this review purely off of service alone. I honestly believe this place is racist. I find that crazy considering the rest of South Haven and all the other restaurants in the area are as sweet as can be. We were not even greeted when we walked in and when we finally got seated, no one gave us water, said hello, or even acknowledged our presence for a good fifteen minutes. We just sat there awkwardly trying to catch someone's eye. Then the table of people next to us said in such a loud voice so we could hear, "look at these foreigners." Mind you, we are NOT foreigners! We are from the city of Chicago born and raised, who just happen to be a different color. The wait staff was short with us and left us with such a bad taste in our mouths. We will definitely come back to the beautiful city of South Haven just probably not to Phoenix Street Cafe. We will go somewhere else where our business is actually welcome.

Solid, affordable breakfast. I had an omelette, my wife had the oatmeal cakes. No complaints. Good service.

Best breakfast in town by far. I also had dinner here which was delicious. I can't believe it isn't more crowded as its much better than Clementines. Larger beer menu would be the only suggestion.

I am disappointed in this restaurant. Great concept and location, poor service and I think they have problems with their kitchen. I went here with my sisters mainly because my sister is a vegetarian and loves the tofu scramble. Our food came out at different times, my omelet was cold but my potatoes were hot. I think I would love the potato mix IF there was an actual mix. It is supposed to have mix of yellow and sweet potatoes but I had one little piece of sweet potato with tons of yellow potatoes. I cannot speak for any other customer but I saw several other patrons upset over the timing of their meals as well. The service was slow but the servers seemed friendly. I think this place could be a great restaurant since the location is downtown South Haven and the menu seems great! They have vegetarian and healthy options. I would go here again but mainly because there isn't much else to choose from!

This is a popular place for breakfast and lunch. The omelettes and pancakes are pretty good. Sandwiches on the menu sounded good but did not have a chance to try it out. Service is friendly and kitchen is fast, but the popularity could mean that you have to wait for a table on the weekends or summer holiday rush. Saw the quote Jen mentions one the way out.

My favorite place for breakfast or lunch. My eggs are always cooked to perfection (which is hard to do for a someone as paticular as me) The Bloody mary's are perfect although a little small, and the sandwiched are really good, very nice selection of them as well. Overall, so far this is one of my favorite spots I have found in South Haven. :) The waitresses are very nice as well, and the cook that was working one of the first times I ordered quickly noticed when he had served me te wrong style of breakfast potatoes, and the correction out immediately, so I ended up having twice the potatoes for the price of one, and both were delicious so I am actually greatfull for that mistake to give me opportunity to try the haven potatoes which are perfect. :)

Great food and atmosphere! We ate here every morning for breakfast and once for lunch during our 3 day stay. The bagel with cream cheese and salmon was very nice with great toppers; blueberry pancakes were delicious, and the New Orleans oatmeal was good. The gyro was very good, it wasn't overt stuffed like most. It was just right. We would definitely eat here again!

We're vacationing in South Haven and had heard this was a good spot for lunch. Our experience was a good one. I'm not usually a Reuben sort of guy, but had a taste for one yesterday and was not disappointed. The light rye bread was perfectly grilled and the corned beef was very good. All in all, a good sandwich. My wife had the Florentine dhicken sandwich and it was also good. Perhaps a bit too smoky, but still quite tasty. We had a group of nine and the service, while not overly friendly, was still better than average. We'll be back in South Haven again next summer and will definitely include a stop here.

I have to this Phoenix three times this summer and they have failed miserably to provide decent service or an accurate time frame to seat us after checking in and waiting a minimum of 30 or so minutes. the first time it took over an hour when the said 40 minutes and we finally had to put up a fuss to get seated at which point our party of 6 had to be split up. The second time we waited 45 minutes for our food and to get a lame excuse that the cooks screwed up, it appeared the lame brain waitress didn't put our order in because she forgot about us, saw her once in 30 of the 45 minutes at which we had to hail another waitress to find ours. The third and last visit was yesterday had a seating set for 40 minutes, an hour later we had to raise a fuss to get seated took another 15 to get refreshments and another 10 to get our order in. The order came out first with one of our party being served the rest 5 or so minutes later. One dish needed to be sent back and she wired another 15 while we ate, when her order then came out it was time to go so it was sent back. The waitress (Molly) made a few comments that we couldn't hear and walked away to then send a bus boy over to hand us the bill. The manager came over and basically did nothing and we left never to return. As far as the food goes it was great, I would strongly suggest a carry out might work better that way!

This place was one of the few healthier choices. A little pricey, but healthier than the other places that really just serves burgers, fish and chips, etc... We even came in 5 min before the closed, but took us in anyway. Our waitress was very attentive. Food was fresh and delicious! we ordered the daily special and even tasted the wine before ordering. This place was a good break from the other greasy foods offered in the area.

Mostly Good - wait staff seems slightly dazed and in need of therapy. Seems to have a problem controlling flies in the patron area.

It's not the most amazing breakfast you'll ever experience, but for a beach/tourist summer spot like South Haven, you'll be surprised by their menu and you won't do better without leaving town. I can recommend the quinoa or New Orleans oatmeal for the healthier folk. The quinoa came with plump ride cherries, brown sugar and a side of milk. The oatmeal is covered with bananas and has the candied pecan option. We also tried the blueberry stuffed French toast, which is quite decadent with it's marvelous blueberry cream cheese. Very very good. But only giving three stars because the eggs Benedict is average in comparison. And I have to second a previous reviewer: the food and menu reach above and beyond but then there are the low quality, pre packaged creamers and jellies on the tables.. And sub average coffee...Kind of half "cafe" and half "greasy spoon"... So ethic fs they do great, others just getting by.

This cafe has a homey feel to it and has the best breakfast in town. And although they don't serve alcohol, it is still a fun restaurant to be in. It is also perfect for families with small children. And unlike other restaurants around the town you don't have to wait long for a table or good food.

We picked this spot without consulting Yelp...I'm disappointed to see that the consensus opinion (as of 7/5/09) would not have saved us from the poor lunch experience we had. We were in town for some Sherman's ice cream and decided to grab lunch. We picked the Phoenix Street Cafe because it was convenient, didn't have a 45 minute wait like it's neighbor and the menu appeared to have some reasonable options. I'm glad this works for some people, but this was a huge miss from our perspective. The room is uninteresting, service is fine, but the food is really unsatisfying. Vegetable soup was a soggy bowl of vegetables. Sandwiches were basically diner fare, which is fine for a few dollars but for $8, the "Southwestern" should not have looked/tasted like something that I might throw together with leftovers. With the title: "the ultimate grilled cheese", their combination of soggy tomato, tasteless mix of cheese and grocery store bread, over-promises and starkly under-delivers. All told, $20 later we were unimpressed. I'm typically pretty forgiving with reviews of local places like this but this place is clearly benefiting from high tourist demand and few clear local options.

If you're looking for a great brunch spot, Phoenix Street is the place in South Haven. The service is fantastic, no one rushes you and they are beyond accommodating with special orders. We had 8 girls and everyone loved their food. We went back the next morning and were greeted like regulars. Also, the portion sizes are large for the very reasonable prices. Good coffee too.

I was thoroughly impressed with the gluten-free options available on the lunch menu. I decided on the adult grilled cheese which was delicious. Other food ordered included the soup and salad combo and a child's macaroni and cheese (standard Kraft variety). The service was friendly and helpful. Should we come back to the South Haven area, I would be willing to eat there again.

i picked this spot based on the line outside of the restaurant vs the other restaurants on the street. I figured long wait = good food, however, i was mistaken. While the food wasn't bad it wasn't necessarily good. i stressed that i did not want toast rather hash browns and no cheese in my omelet and sure enough, cheese in my omelet and toast no hashbrowns. (i feel silly when i complain about these things, but at the time it really ruins a meal for me!)

This is a great lunch spot. When I'm in town, I like to meet my mom here on her lunch hour. They have great sandwiches. They can be busy during the lunch rush, but the kitchen really knows how to crank out the dishes and the wait is never that bad.

I agree with Allison, this is a great lunch spot. I'm a big fan of gyros, and theirs are awesome! Service is pretty fast but it does get pretty busy. The waitress was not offering refills on the drinks, possibly because it WAS really busy and possibly because they were trying to turn around their tables as quickly as possible.

mediocre food, incompetent staff, what's to love? we arrived for a marginally late breakfast (around 10) and didn't leave until it was lunch time! when we put our names down, we were suprised when the hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait as there were several open tables, and not a ton of names ahead of ours. imagine our suprise as we waited for the next SIXTY minutes for a table, observing with dismay as the waitresses refused to bus their tables until there was absolutely nothing left they could possibly do. get a busboy, phoenix street cafe! you could double your turnover. the food, when it finally arrived, was bland and poorly made, rubbery eggs, white, underdone pancakes. the service was indifferent -- we had a total of four people, 3 of whom ordered pancakes, and somehow wound up with six pots of syrup, which they then dawdled over removing, despite the fact we could barely move a fork for fear of knocking one over. from now on, we'll wait for a rotary pancake breakfast or make our own rather than endure the phoenix street cafe again.

  • Kim M.

Service was outstanding!! Breakfast was average. We had a little bit of everything at our table. Pancakes, omelet, eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits and gravy. It was all good just not great.

  • Faith C.

The restaurant isn't very big so the tables are fairly close together. We went there with a large party (7 adults and 4 kids) so it's hard to tell if our large party affected the wait times. We had to wait for tables- which is understandable with a large party in a small restaurant. The hostess was very apologetic for the wait time (which didn't seem that long considering our party size) and she offered to seat us separately but quicker if we wanted (which we declined.) It seemed as though it took longer for us to order and get our food. We weren't very hungry before we arrived but by the time our food arrived, we were starving. The people working there were helpful and friendly enough. The waitress wasn't overly friendly and seemed a little frazzled/stressed with our party but she was polite enough and brought us everything we needed/asked for. As for the food, it seems as though breakfast and lunch/dinner are available at the same time. We went around brunch time 11-1 and were able to order from both menus. I'm not sure if it was because we were so hungry or what but everyone at our table seemed to enjoy what they ordered. I had the artichoke burger which I thought was pretty good. The feta taste was very faint. I would've liked more feta but that's because I love feta. I had a taste of the California Benedict and Crab Cake Benedict and they were both delicious. My one complaint would be the bathroom. It's very small and poorly designed. When you use the diaper changing station, no one can come in or out of the bathroom because the changing station blocks the door from opening. It also blocks one of the stalls from opening so if someone is in there, they have to wait until you are done changing the diaper- a bit of an inconvenience for everyone. And since there are only two stalls, using the diaper station causes quite a line. Oh and the banging of the stall door and bathroom door on the changing station scares the baby.

We put our name on the list and were told there was a ten minute wait. We sat at the table for 40 minutes before the food arrived. Worst omelette I've ever had. So runny it was impossible to eat. Server was lovely-it's unfortunate she works in this half-assedly run place.

We stumbled upon Phoenix Street on our way back from Douglas this past Sunday. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. Fast service and our server anticipated all of our needs. Bloody Marys and mimosas, score! I had the gyro omelet served with a side of tzatziki. Very light, flavorful and I finished the whole plate! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his generous portion of corned beef hash and eggs. We definitely recommend!

Brunch here is awesome! My friend is vegetarian and there were a lot of options for her! I tried a bite of her portobello burger was amazing. I highly recommend it! There is a bit of a wait tho on weekends so be prepared for that.

We decided to try out a different breakfast option on our vacation to South Haven and were very pleased to discover Phoenix Street Cafe. Service was friendly and fast. All of the food: eggs, meats, pancakes, breads and potatoes tasted great. This is our favorite breakfast option in South Haven.

On vacation with family and decided to stop here and have breakfast/lunch based off of recommendation from Old Harbor Inn. Here we received the worst service! Took over 45 minutes to receive our food after ordering, almost, still didn't receive everybody's because they had to go next door to get the bread? But after 4/5 of the party getting their food it sat for 10 min because nobody got their utensils or napkins. Then after walking to the kitchen/server area and asking for utensils it still took 5 minutes to get them. Still no food for the 5th party. After server apologizes, she offers to take drinks off of our order, but when bill comes drinks still on bill. They did nothing to make right and I feel in their opinion that they feel I should just take the crappy service and enjoy. Very bad experience!

Our server was really sweet, she had two names and I can't remember either, I am sorry. She was very attentive and took good care of us. The food was just ok. I was really excited to try their breakfast and left disappointed. I would have been hungry as well, but my toast filled me up. I ordered the homemade corned beef hash. It was covered in green onion and some other green herb, perhaps parsley. I could not even taste the corned beef. I was trying to pick the corned beef and potatoes out from the green onions. It was nearly inedible. I was so sad. I could not tell you whether the corned beef was good or not. My husband got the pancakes, they were huge, fluffy and delicious. The eggs and bacon and toast were good. If those were bad, we would have had a real problem. I didn't return the hash, because I didn't want them to make me another one. It wasn't an issue with how it was cooked or getting the wrong thing, but just thinking what I got was not enjoyable to eat. I saw a photo of someone else's corned beef hash and it did not have nearly as much green onion as mine did. I thought I just didn't like what they were making, but it appears now that maybe I just got a poorly executed hash. Sad face.

Wide variety on the menu. Everything is very good. Larger portions. Always busy, but, always seated promptly. Clean throughout. Waitstaff and hostess alway pleasant, polite, & friendly. It can get packed during the Summer with tourists & boaters.

Not worth the wait! Or the hype! Like any small tourist town, your options are slim for just about everything. That usually works to your advantage and enhances your restaurant dabbling. I researched places for Sunday brunch and thought Phoenix Street Cafe, during September, would be the best option. When I arrived, the wait was 30 minutes. My name and number was added to a list and I left to shop around town until I received a text that my table was ready. Super convenient! I was impressed that this was being utilized by such a small cafe! But, my waffle order came out cold and pretty tasteless. The service was below average. I was offered a coffee refill just once, and our server could never be found. The atmosphere isn't very warm or inviting - think a rehabbed store shop with tables and chairs. For one of just a handful of restaurants in town, this cafe has such opportunity! Improve your service and your well-crafted menu and small town charm will be appreciated.

This place is phenomenal! Not your Denny's. It's a foodie place without being pretentious. The service was so good, too. Our server custom made a Bloody with Burbon and other little touches. I had the special- egg scramble, asparagus, mushroom, bacon, onion, micro greens and hollandaise sauce, potatoes and toast. Everything was fresh and delicious! Wish we lived closer!

Thoughtful menu, poor execution. My crab eggs Benedict was Luke warm and greasy, and my hash browns were soggy... Same for my wife's tofu scrabble. Props to the owners for having an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu, but what came to out table was not good.

Stopped on our way through town to Chicago and had a great breakfast. It was a busy Friday morning and they had a lot going on but everyone took the time to make sure that we were happy and enjoying the food. Had a very good experience and enjoyed the food quite a bit. Won't hesitate to stop back again if we are ever in the area around the breakfast time! Can see why they were voted best breakfast in town!

Great place to grab breakfast/lunch. The interior had an open but comforting feeling to it and the staff was very nice. Most of the menu consist of breakfast options, but their lunch menu has enough to fill your taste bud needs. I was torn between the crab benedict and the Texas rueben, but I ended up choosing the Texas rueben and was not disappointed. The smoked brisket was nice and tender which came apart easily without taking all the meat with each bite. The BBQ sauce and Swiss cheese complimented the toasted rye bread and brisket exquisitely for an excellent lunch. Sides consisted of a pickle spear and potato salad, cole slaw, or a few other items which was just the right amount of food to fill my belly without over stuffing it.

If you are expecting Midwest hospitality this is not the place to eat. Party of 11 for breakfast and waitress made it very clear she would prefer we not have come in. Rude rude and rude. Food was a mix. Bacon and pancakes were great. Biscuits and gravy decent but everyone with omelette were very disappointed. Food wasn't good enough to make up for horrible service. Felt like advising the waitress to find a new career as she simply should not be working with the public but bit my tongue, left average tip as sure she has bills to pay and moved on.

Drove into South Haven hungry and came here directly for lunch based on the outstanding reviews. Having completed our meal, this place is over rated. Average at best. On the up side they do have a number of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Though I am not a vegetarian, I chose the spinach burger. It ended up being fairly strange. Basically, spanakpita filling on a bun. Also, for 50 cents extra I opted for the sweet potato fries. The fries were truly disappointing. Completely flavorless, I think they came frozen out of a bag. Another in our party had the artichoke burger with pretty much the same experience as the spinach. My husband couldn't resist the chicken and waffles. This was also somewhat strange. Served with the chicken and biscuit gravy on top of the waffle with a bourbon maple syrup on the side. With gravy already, why would you also want the syrup?...Unless you are really pushing the heart attack. Service was quite friendly and they were super good at keeping iced teas full.

Very slow service. Food was OK, but not anything to rush back for. Also quite pricy for the average quantity and quality of the food.

We weren't sure what to expect when we wandered in here. The place wasn't packed, but it was busy. About 3/4 of the tables were occupied at the 6 p.m. Hour of a Saturday evening. There are way more breakfast and lunch options than for dinner, but what they offer they do very, very well. We're spending the week in the South Haven area and I already know this won't be our last visit during our trip. The service was okay, tho I had to ask twice for a refill on my iced tea before getting it. And our server kind of forgot to bring us our food when it was ready so someone else had to. She was all apologetic, but we didn't really mind. For dinner my wife had the night's flatbread selection, which was a tasty combination of arugula, marinara, mozzarella, tomatoes and bacon. I tried a bite and liked it, but it was nothing compared to my Texas Reuben, which was made with coleslaw and beef brisket. The meat was tender, smokey and delicious. The highlight, however, were the bacon wrapped, apricot stuffed jalapeños we ordered as an appetizer. Served with house made bleu cheese dressing this interesting flavor combination really made my mouth sit up and take notice.

The cinnamon swirl French toast is amazing, otherwise I don't think this place is anything special. Plenty of food for what you pay, but overall I've had better. Hash browns and bacon were not crisp, eggs luke warm, and my son's choco chip pancakes were slightly over cooked and hard to cut. Nice atmosphere and super friendly staff. Pace of service was a bit on the slow side. We won't be back any time soon...

This was on our list to try, especially after it claimed to serve Gluten Free options & dinner. However, no hours were posted on the door. When called, no one answered, which is fine. Yet, most businesses have an automated message reminding customers of operation hours - not this place. Bummed because it looked decent. So the rating is based on their lack of communication.

Hit the spot. Enjoyed breakfast in the middle of the day. Had a good selection of Benedict's, which are my favorite. My husband got the pancakes. They were a good size and everything tasted home made and unique. The waitress was very accommodating with what was a complicated order. The sausage patties had a strong sage flavor that I did not care for. They were also greasy in flavor. Coffee was really good. Upgraded my hash browns to corned beef hash. Could have done without. I've had much better. Overall an enjoyable experience with quality ingredients and friendly service.

Pet peeve for eating out - when the waitress arrives without waters for the table. Sloooooooow service. The waitress was plenty nice, but it took over 5 minutes for someone to greet us when we were seated - no waters. They Have a couple of tables outside which would have been nice to sit at but we were inside. The food was pretty good! I had the fresh fish catch of the day sandwich, which was like a seabass. It was not fried (joy!!!) but lightly sautéed. The Cajun mayo that was served along with it was great. I also opted to get a side salad - the bleu cheese salad - which had great flavor - the bleu cheese was strong, and the dressing was just right, however the presentation was just like "PLOP" - every ingredient piled on top of one another in a small bowl. They have wine and beer, but was not impressed with the selection. Basic beers - no craft brews. I would return and try their lunch or breakfast menu - they had a jalepeno Rueben sandwich that sounded yummy, and I noticed there are often lines to eat there in the morning.

We had breakfast here on our last morning of vacation. We were in pretty early (before 9) and it was already hopping with the breakfast crowd. They were accommodating for our party of four adults, a toddler and a baby and brought out the toddler's food immediately as requested. Our coffees and water stayed refilled without having to flag people down, the food was really good and the prices reasonable. I got the eggs benedict and they even asked if I wanted my eggs poached soft, medium or hard.... I would definitely return here for breakfast on future trips to South Haven.

Food was average, had cornbeef hash it was ok, not the way I like it. Service was slow, waited 5 minutes before getting menus. Being there were only 3 tables. Coffee was not so great.

Service was slow. Only three tables to wait on. The corn beef hash was in chunks and potatoes were fried Ham is low quality. This place has potential but they need to stop making short cuts in the food.

The food and services was great at Phoenix Street. I loved that breakfast was served all day and if you order anything with bacon it is piled on. (That was a plus for my family!) I would go over and over agin if I could, but since I can't I recommend it to anyone I can. So go enjoy amazing food for great prices at Phoenix Street!!

I attempted to have breakfast here this morning(9/5/2014, 8:30 A.M.), walked in and saw the sign which read" Please Allow Us to Seat You" then waited and waited, and waited, had two employees walk by me, nothing, not even a "we will be right with you"! They were not busy, less than half of the tables occupied and at least three wait staff that I could see. After several minutes I decided it was not worth it, turned around and said to the man coming in "Good Luck". Perhaps the owner needs to go over again with the staff that the people coming in the door have the money they are trying to get for their service take care of them! I can't rate anything except the quality of the service since I never got close to the food, service... Not so Good. They get one star only because Yelp won't allow you to give less.

Good place for breakfast and lunch. Good service. Good coffee. The year servers are excellent. Come summer, much of the help will be younger, but just be patient. Was in for breakfast this week and had the french toast casserole. Very good. Looking forward to fresh MI asparagus being on the menu later in May.

The breakfast was average (similar in quality to a chain breakfast restaurant), hence the three star review. I had the B.E.L.T. (Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, and Tomato) sandwich (which came with hash browns), which was good, but nothing more complex or flavorful than what I could have easily made myself at home (think store-bought sliced bread from a bag, toasted and with bacon, scrambled eggs, lettuce, and tomatoes thrown on top).

The server forgot we were outside but apologized. I'm a server so I understand getting busy. Food was good and service was wonderful!

I like to sit at the counter and crush the "Country Favorite" with chorizo scrambled into the eggs. I think it is reasonably priced. I go with the "Haven Potatoes" rather than hash browns.

Very busy restaurant in the heart of South Haven. Breakfast was excellent! My coffee cup was kept full and the food was very good! If you leave here hungry it is your own fault!

Well it looked like everyone else had pretty good service and food. My boyfriend I literally waited over an hour and 15 minutes for food while everyone else that came in after is got served paid their bills and left. It was clear we were in a hurry due to the fact that we were dressed head to toe in biking gear and yet not one person in the busy place seemed to care. I will never come here again. Bad service.

Service was slow even though there were not many people in this small place on arrival. The redeeming factor was the food that came out after a long wait, otherwise it would have been 2 stars. The server was very nice... just slow. Had to give reminders about my soup and beer. This is an OK casual place if they can speed things up a bit then it could be a winner.

Best BLT and caesar salad. I have NO idea what type of Caesar dressing they use, but OMG...it;s delicious. We always head to the Phoenix when we visit (from Chicago) for the Blueberry Fest. We are NEVER disappointed. GREAT food and GREAT service.

Yum! We stopped by at about 11am on a c-c-cold Sunday, and Phoenix Street warmed us up. The oatmeal cakes were rich and delish, and the crabcake eggs benedict was to die for. That plus two coffees cost us $25 + tip. Too bad they're -so- crowded during tourist season...

Stopped in for lunch while waiting for our room to be ready. Clean and well decorated with a nice homey feel when I walked in. Service was sloooooooow......especially for three waitresses and 6 tables. The food, once our order was finally taken, came out promptly and was good. I love crab cakes and tried the crab cake sandwich. The menu said the crab crab cakes were hand made.....I highly doubt it...but it was a good tasting sandwhich that I would try again. Prices are very reasonable but I wish they had a little more on the menu or even a single appetizer option. All in all a nice place to stop for a quick bite while in south haven.

Food was very good with a wide variety. We ordered breakfast and lunch and all meals were considered very good. Service was slow and not attentive to our table of five. I rate service at a two star. Food was five star.

All I have to say is that my omelet was tasteless and steaming hot while my potatoes were frigid cold. Hummm... kind of an issue for me. And it took FOREVER for someone to notice us sitting at the bar and then to finally get our food. Yuck!

Now called "Phoenix Street Restaurant"- We came here on a Sunday afternoon in August and had a delicious meal. They had some great meatless options. Waitress was very friendly, quick and helpful. We had enjoyed their Spinach Sandwich and BBQ sandwich- both were yummy. Decor was nice and everything was very clean & modern. Reasonably priced. Would definitely go back and would recommend!

Phoenix Street is a nice little offering in South Haven. I was walking around trying to find a place to eat dinner, and this seemed like the only place to go. The service was really slow, and the restaurant was not very full. The waitress seemed like she did not want to be there, but I can understand that! I ordered a Reuben, and it was fantastic. My son ordered mac n cheese, and it was literally a box of Kraft. Not impressed there. My buddy ordered their fresh catch sandwich, which was salmon that day, and he raved over it. The in-house chips were great. No real complaints here.

3.5 stars is about right for this place. We came here for dinner over Labour Day weekend and were really surprised that it wasn't busier. I'm guessing because it's the wind-down of the season in the area? Anyway, we got there around 8ish and ended up closing the place. I had the pork chop and I think husband had the meat loaf. The food was quite good, and so was the dessert. The price was reasonable, too. We'd be back if we came back to South Haven.

This place was awesome! Not a lot of places are open in the morning so this is a perfect stop. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in you will love the decor and atmosphere. I had great service and all the staff was very friendly. Now let's talk about the food. The chicken waffles were amazing. I like it so much I would most likely order this every time I came back. If you are in South Haven this is a most stop for breakfast.

Everything about this place was great for us. Good, friendly, and timely service, good coffee, and good food! We stopped for brunch and found plenty of options on the menu. I recommend the Phoenix Street!

After a nice getaway to South Haven for a night, we went here for breakfast yesterday before heading back to Chicago. The food was good - I had the Boater's something or another. Can't remember exactly what it's called. Basically... eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and hashbrowns. A little bit of everything, which is what I tend to order when eating breakfast out. The food was good, but it took FOREVER to arrive. I've honestly probably never waited so long for my breakfast to be served. To his credit, the server did come and tell us the kitchen was backed up and it'd be awhile. But still... I shouldn't have to wait 45+ minutes for my food to come. We were all really hungry, which made it worse. So... I'd recommend the food and the pricing is great, but be prepared for a potentially very, very long wait.

My husband and I have been eating at the Phoenix Cafe for five years. We are regulars during the spring, summer and fall. We have never had a bad meal and the service, well let me say this, they are like our kids to us. The new menu is out of this world and I can't wait to try everything on it. It may take a while to get served, but hey, this ain't McPhoenix Cafe. Worth the wait. Its always packed, so that says it all.

We visited Phoenix Street Cafe based on other Yelp reviewers, and I'm glad we chose to dine there. I had the asparagus sandwich, which wasn't the least bit healthy, but tasted delicious. My bf had the French toast and it was very yummy and sweet. Everything we saw looked delicious.

Great Cafe. Had the mini Breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, and toast. The eggs were a great quality as was the sausage. I would come back to this place again to have breakfast or just sit and do some work over coffee.

Really nice lunch/brunch spot. it has a pretty typical menu of sandwiches and omelets and whatnot but they do the food well. The vegetarian hash was particularly good. They're gluten-free friendly too.

I'm not feeling the love for this place from others, but it is the only place I go unless I'm cooking for myself when in South Haven. Except for Maria's, the new tiny italian joint. The service is always great here, and the menu is inventive for a beach town like South Haven. The breakfast is excellent, and I highly recommend the Cinnamon French Toast. If it's too busy, hop over to Cafe Julia, also owned by the same group, though not as diverse a menu. Remember, in a busy town like South Haven in the summer, service with a smile isn't necessarily a common occurrence. Here, they are always helpful with the menu and will cook it as you like even if there is a packed house. Check it out.

This restaurant is in a great location in downtown South Haven. It's a 10 minute walk to the marina and beaches. My husband and I stopped here during a long weekend in late October in lower Michigan. The business was brisk even at this time of year, which is always a good sign. We liked it so much that we returned 3 days in a row for breakfast. The good: Gyros Omelet Eggs Benedict California Omelet AND OH MY GOD...THE BREAKFAST POTATOES ARE AWESOME! They are seasoned with fresh rosemary and I could eat a ton of them! In fact, I swore I was going to place a double order each time I went there but never did. Service - always cheerful and attentive Prices - which seem very reasonable The not so good: Coffee - bland and weak Pancakes - too doughy for our tastes We didn't sample lunch, however my husband wants to go back for the grilled cheese he saw on the board.
